78) On the Lakefield road is Airmount House, Kilsob, built about 1800 by the local landlord William Betty, and leased to his steward Alexander Hill, who later sold it to John W. Bennison. It was bought by Thomas Phillips of Belturbet about 1860 and passed on to John Phillips, who with Thomas Magauran were delegates for Bawnboy Gallowglasses at the 1888 G.A.A. Convention, Cavan. John Phillips married Margaret McManus, their children being Mary Cathleen, Patrick and Francis. Margaret died and John married Minnie Louise Yaw and from this marriage were born Florence Mary, Agnes Josephine and Minnie Louise in the early years of the 20th century. John Phillips died in 1902 aged 50. Airmount House became a R.I.C. Barracks from about 1910 to 1921.

The Mullally family were the next owners of Airmount and it became a Garda Barracks from 1923 to the early 1930s. Patrick McGahern was the next owner of the place and he sold it to George Plunkett, Gortnacargy, who came with his wife Lizzie and sons George, J.P. and Oliver to live in Airmount. George married Frances Gough, now deceased, and reared their family Doreen, Canada; Martin, Cork; Catherine, England; Carol, England; Una, Killashandra and Kenneth.

79) We return to McCanns and turn left into Kilsob Lane. The first junction leads past Edward McKiernan's new house where he and Geraldine, a newly married couple live.

80) Close by on the right is Cullen's house, now empty. It was here in the 1940s that Hugh Cullen started his family by marrying Bridget Fee. They had three children, Kathleen, Monaghan; Patricia, London and Gerry, Cavan. The previous generation of Cullens, the children of Garret Cullen and Kate McKiernan were James, Joe, Peter, Hugh, Cissy and Terry. Peter and Terry won Cavan Junior Championship medals with Camagh in 1929 along with James Murphy, Bawnboy.
