85) Close to the gate, which leads from the avenue to Bawnboy House, but on the opposite side is the Bawn of 1613. Three walls are still nine feet high, the south-west wall containing a half-tower with archaic batter.   (See Origins of the Name 'Bawnboy' for details of the 'Bawn')

86) A hundred yards down the avenue on the right, are the houses of the Murphy family. First is the house of the grandparents James and Mollie, still alert and staying young at heart. Their family has grown up, John, Parish Priest, Bailieboro; Mary, England; Paddy, just a field away, and Kathleen, Dublin.

87) Paddy and Nora have a large family close by, Noreen, Caitríona, Siobhán, Nuala, Páraic, Blaithín, Mary Rose and Seán, getting ready to take their places in the world.

88) The Gate House gave shelter and comfort to many down the years. It was bought by Hugh Melanaphy, Drumbeagh who moved in with his family Ray, Maura and Rita. Tommy Gilbride who married Rita and their son Francis have recently moved to Tullybrack, having sold the house to Paddy Murphy. The house is being renovated at present.
