Templeport Show |
|
Templeport Young Farmers of the 1950s brought new life
to the parish in many ways. They were constantly in touch with their Agricultural
Officer at their meetings and individually on their farms. When they were
seen cutting ragwort (buachalans) in their pasture land it was treated
as a joke by some for a while, but soon imitated. Meetings were enlivened
by Question Time and debates with other farming groups. Their most successful
venture was the organising of a show. It was mainly agricultural but the
committee as was their custom, introduced several other types of competition.
Templeport Young Farmers 6th Annual Show 1958, in Murray’s
field, Kilnavart had a record entry and attracted a big attendance. A
hard-working committee under Martin Daly, Chairman; Michael O’Brien
and Bennie Donohoe, Treasurers, and Rumold Dolan, Secretary had the arrangements
perfected. A Ladies’ Committee took charge of the catering.
